The village Children of Killankulam

The village Children of Killankulam

In the South of India there is a small village named Killankulam. If you would like to find it on a map, you will not succeed. We call it the forgotten village. You have to know where to turn right on the main road because they do not have any sign when you enter the village. There are many villages like this over all India. They are running themselves and nothing has changed over the last 100 years. The houses are made of clay with one or two rooms only. On the backside there is an open fireplace where they prepare there simple daily meal. From one single water tank in the middle of the village, the families have to carry their daily need water. In the houses there is no washroom and the whole village has no access to canalization.

This village is my home for the next 3 months. I am supporting a project build up by an Australian … and women from the Netherlands. The project started during the last part of 2003, a project to support the village children of Killankulam in their personnel growing process. “We don’t talk about the often named so called cup of rice. We are talking about a daily solid vegetarian based healthy food” said Sri Param the founder of the project. It is also the knowledge for the children, that healthy food will support them in their growing for their own life. Supporting these children is part of the spiritual work of Sri Param, who is a well known Tantra Teacher and Sound Healer. If they don’t get any special education and support their future life is be a laborer on the fields or in the quarry nearby for Euro 0,50.- a day. The education in the local school is not sufficient to be qualified for any higher school or university. In English, they learn by heart English poems without understanding the content. Far away from any conversation skills needed for daily life or on a university. In this project, the village children from Killankulam are always talking English when they want to communicate with the founders of the project. The founders regularly also tries to keep an overview of the daily school activities of the children. This should later help them to be qualified for a higher school grade or university.

The whole project is financed by the founders money and some donations from Holland.

In the average 5-10 children are always here to get daily healthy warm meal. 6 of them also stay overnight in their own room with modern amenities such as western toilet and shower. They are also responsible for cleaning the room. They have daily social contact with their parents. They also have an overview of the children’s daily shower and the use of a toothbrush. They also provide employment to many of the local people from the village. They get work to a more faire condition as normally. To be us much independent from buying food the project produces their own vegetables on biological base and have a few milk cows for the milk production. The children are taking care about the vegetables and have the success of consummating their own labor work.
