Name P. Selvi
Date, place of birth Wednesday, 12th of august 1992, Killankulam.
I have been coming to the IFC center since Devanayagi was here.
I come here to learn English speaking and talking and I want to teach Devanayagi
Tamil so that we can communicate better.
I also like to make beautiful colored kolam here in front of the houses.
I have one sister, Kavitha, she is 16 years old.
I attend the Government higher secondary school in T. Kallupatti, I am in the
7th standard.
My father has no work since he broke his foot in the stone factory 2 years ago,
he cannot walk very well. He got Rs 2000 from the factory but that was quickly
finished after buying medication for him and the hospital. We don’t have
insurance.
The president of Killankulam told him not to go to a lawyer because there were a
lot of people from Killankulam working in the stone factory at that moment and
that would effect their jobs as well. Now we are the ones that are suffering we
do not get much support from the community other then to borrow money from them
and paying interest for that.
Now my mother supports the family by picking sticks in the surroundings of the
village. The sticks are used for cooking fire. She earns Rs 25 per day and that
is were we survive on. When there is a good rice harvest we get enough rice for
a year when my mother helps harvesting.
My diet at home exists of rice. We buy Rs 5 worth of vegetables each day and
that we have to share with the four of us.
I would like to learn Bharatanatyam dancing and music.
When I grow older I want to study for police officer so that I can catch the
people who accept bribes. I will help prevent the police officers to be abusive
to the people I will be kind and loving to the public.
To change Tamil Nadu we have to change our political leaders, I will arrest old
corrupt political leaders.
If I would be the president of Killankulam I would make more public toilets and
make sure that they are taken care of the following:
I would help to make my village clean.
I would make good street lights and provide proper drainage.
I would also help my village to move forward into the present age.
